The first transports from Berlin to Auschwitz left in September 1942. No destination was registered for the first transports, but it is assumed that they arrived in Auschwitz. Auschwitz was specifically mentioned as the destination as of November 1942. In September 1942, 75,816 Jews still remained in Germany, excluding Austria. From this time on, Auschwitz took the place of the ghettos and the killing sites in the east as the destination of the transports of German Jews (alongside the deportation to Theresienstadt). In late March 1943, only 31,910 Jews remained in Germany, among them 14,393 who had to wear the yellow badge. Transports to Auschwitz continued up until 1945. From the summer of 1943, each transport included only a few dozen Jews.
